Fry
I installing new belts, and the book says to align the center line on the flywheel with the timing mark on the housing. Are they referring to the ign timing marks? There is another set of marks a few inches away that look like this ||| are those the ones I should use? thanks, Matt
soobscript
Use the 3 close marks. Line up the center one with the pointer in the window of the flywheel housing. Do not use the ignition timing marks (10 A 0 B 10 20).
hooziewhatsit
also make sure you crank the engine over once inbetween the drivers side belt and the passenger side belt. I've made this mistake even after doing several timing belt jobs
Fry
Well I used the three marks and cranked it once. It sounds like the d/s wants to start, but nothing from the p/s. Does it matter which way you turn the engine? I went clockwise facing the engine, but I wonder if I should have gone the other way. I'm taking lunch righ now, and will re-do it after. Thanks again for the help.
hooziewhatsit
nope, doesn't matter which way you turn the engine over, just as long as the driver side cam goes from pointing straight up to straight down. In the end the cams should be 180* from each other.
Fry
Oh. Well Iturned it back and timed it the other direction. It took a few tries but it started and died. That's all it would do, start and die. I didn't have the engine comepletely back together yet, and it turned out that the problem was the wire for the oil pressure sending unit wasn't connected and the computer was shutting it off. I plugged it back in and all is well now. Thanks to all! Matt
