Petersubaru
has anyone ever explained as to why the Hitachi carbs stumble or hesitate...perhaps I missed the answer when trying to use the search...anyway, I have had my 86 wagon since near new and with only 25,000miles on it at that time, it was already showing signs of hesitation then and has only gotten worse with time...I would like to do something to correct the problem(if this is possible) while at the same time keep the car original ....any feedback would appreciated
Cougar
Have you checked for a intake manifold leak as a cause of this problem?

Subarian
Stumbling or hesitation (we're talking about acceleration here) is usually caused by a bad accelerator pump. If you get a rebuild kit it should take care of it.
hatchsub
Yeah every subaru carb whether it be the hitachi two barrel or the carter-weber one barrel hessitated for me. I have a roo-builders hitachi waiting to go on my car and hopfully they have solved this annoying tendency.
