cul8er
I looked in the manual for where to find the engine size on this 86 GL SW I picked up, but either my eyes are getting real bad or the book is pointing me in the wrong direction, any one know? I need to replace the left front axle and want to make sure I'm buying the right one for it. Also any tricks to doing this?
Subarian
Look on the top front of the engine near the dipstick tube. You should find a casting that says EA 82. That means it's a 1.8 liter overhead cam engine.
Subarian
Oh, and one other thing. There's a different axle for the turbo and non-turbo cars.
eggroller
Oh, and one other thing. There's a different axle for the turbo and non-turbo cars. non-Turbo axle = 23 splines on the inboard CV. Turbo axle = 25 splines
NorthWet
non-Turbo axle = 23 splines on the inboard CV.Turbo axle = 25 splines Unless the turbo is an automatic... and the splined-shaft sizes are different on the the turbos.
cul8er
I found the engine size, ea82 on the front by the dip stick. Damn book pointed it out by the dizzy. I called a friend that has a few brats and a GL wagon and was telling him what the manual said to do to change out the axel and he got pissed. Said he could get it out in 20 min. without pulling off the caliper, backing plate and I didn't need to take it down and get preesed out and the new back in! He was here within an hour and damn, had it out in under 20 min., what a guy! It was 23 spline, and after we got it, the car was back on the ground in 30 min.!
