'95 Legacy Sedan .... swap 5spd tranny?

Recommended Posts

I'm about to get a '95 Legacy with a auto tranny that has problems ... can I just swap out a 5 spd from a '91 Legacy?

I would say yes. I can't say if the difference in years would present any problems though. Several people have done 5 speed swap and a few have good web pages on the whole procedure.

Here's the only one I saved the link from...

(If the auto on my 91 wagon ever goes I will also be swapping in a 5 speed.)

It should work. You will need the 5spd trannie, new drive shaft, a rear end that matches the front diff, clutch, flywheel, manule pedal assembly, shifting linkage, manule drive shaft. I may be missing some small things but those are the larger ones.

It should work. You'll want to verify that the final drive ratio is the same.

Also, are you getting the 91 legacy as a donor car, or just getting the transmission. There's a bit of little stuff that you'll need, so it'd be a good idea to get a donor car, or have a good junkyard near by.
