3rd gen heads

Recommended Posts

Just did a search on the board, but didnt find anything.

Im trying to figure out how to ID 3rd gen turbo heads,as I have heard these are the best heads to have, because they dont crack as easy. I know of a couple of 89's in a few yards, so I figure they would be a good place to start looking. I just wana make sure I ID them right first...

I don't know about not cracking them. I had a 89 GL-10 wagon I got from a guy and he had cracked the gen 3 heads on it BAD!!! I ended up replacing them with gen 2 heads and no problems. I honestly think it has a lot with how you actually take care of your engine. Abuse it, epecially a EA-82T motor and you are asking for trouble. Take good care of it and it will last a long time. But if you do change the heads make sure you use genuine Subaru head gaskets. Best quality for your Subie.

cool, so I will check the heads I know of tomarow. I should be looking for hairline cracks around the exhaust valve seat on the head from what im reading? not just a split between the intake/ exhaust valve?

Dont worry, I already ordered all my gaskets and they are SUBARU, so I wont have to worry about them. Already read up on that one.:)
