Jerry DeMoss
Well I just got a weber carb today from a guy who had one for sale off of a BMW 2002. The carb is the 32/36 DGAV. I got it for $30 so I think I got a good deal. Will the DGAV work correctly on a suby engine? I just wanted to make sure it wasn't all backwards like the DFAV.The carb I got needs some cleaning cause it has a good layer of gunk on it and needs a rebuild. mcbrat
has it been converted to electric choke, or is it still water choke?
Jerry DeMoss
Looks like its electric.Has that little brass tab connector on the side. Also it must be a pretty old school carb cause when I pulled it apart it has the brass float. Is it a good idea to change to the plastic?(Float doesn't have any leaks)
Subarian
You have a DGEV (the E is for electric, A is for water choke). The G means the bellcrank is on the right-hand side of the carb (from driver's perspective) which is where you need it for a Subaru. The brass floats are standard in the Weber, because they don't absorb gasoline and lose their setting over time. You got a good deal. A rebuild kit goes for about $25 online.Depending on the difference in application and altitude, you may need to rejet the carb. There's a good tech page at www.redlineweber.com. Jerry DeMoss
Thanks for the tip.Ya I definately need to rejet it.Had some corrosion inside from sitting for so long.(White powder)I have it apart and I am cleaning it and its cleaning up well.I forgot to add earlier it is a DGAV but converted to electric.I am pretty amazed how simple they are compared to a hitachi.Kinda reminds me of the carbs I had on dirtbikes and snowmobiles. Subarian
When you rejet it, pay attention to the air corrector jets. They play an important part in getting it set up right.
Subarian
I thought of something else that might be helpful. I used the stock carb's bellcrank and trimmed some metal off of it so it would work on the Weber. It was a lot easier than fabricating a new one.
