jelly man
I'm swapping the awd auto drivetrain from a 91 legacy wagon into a 92 fwd auto sedan. The mechanical parts are going fine except the torque converter. Is the converter from a fwd tranny the same as one from an awd? I need to know what electrical parts (TCU, relays, wiring, etc.) that I NEED to swap also. I'd like to swap as little as need be.
gen1lover
I know in 93 the torque converters are the same
Legacy777
Yeah I would think the torque converters are the same. As for electrical, I believe the only thing different on the AWD's is the duty c solenoid. So you should just verify that the pins for that sensor is there. I'd have to look at things more closely, to be absolutely sure, but you should be able to d/l the tcu i/o from my server.
jelly man
A very important note. The TCU's are not the same. My tranny was howling very loudly. I pulled the new TCU and it is stamped 2wd. I pulled the old TCU and it was stamped 4wd. I checked the number of pins on each box and they still are the same. I swapped them and the problem is now fixed.
Legacy777
That's good to know they aren't the same. The FWD TCU probably doesn't have the programming to control the AWD.
