I have a 1999 Outback, after 3hrs driving or so when car comes to a stop, there is lots of smoking coming from what seems to be back of engine/ under car. Has anyone seen/heard of this? What should I be looking at/checking? THanks

You have a oil leak of some kind, either engine oil or power steering fluid. The desighn of the exhaust system is real good at getting oil on it.

Yo dont say how many miles are on the car, and weather you are due for a timing belt change or not. It is most likely your cam seals, or main seal, or oil pump seals . Every subaru does this eventually.

Sounds like you've got a leaking front and/ or rear crank seal. My 98 OBW was doing the exact same thing. Look under the car and see if the oil pan is covered in oil. MIne was leaking from the front, it drips from under the plastic dust cover over the belts, running down the oil pan and burning on the exhaust.

Also check for torn front CV boots which will dump grease onto the exhaust.
