Numbchux
What should I use to lubricate my clutch cable? When it's super cold, it won't work....the only way it will engage is if I manually pull on the lever on the tranny...makes it kinda hard to get to school.... anyway, I thought maybe just spraying WD-40 might work, but I'm not sure...ideas? Hocrest
If it's that tight, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to grab a spare. It will sit nicely out of the way in the spare tire untill you need it. I seem to recall it costing about $14 at the dealership????
tailgatewagon
change it its easy and dosnt cost much or take much time.... as for what to do in the meantime. try anything and find what will get you by. i would use a teflone spray... sorry about the spelling........... Phizinza
yep, wd-40, I had a tight cable after pulling the engine out with the cable still attached, sprayed fair bitr of WD-40 and it works like new again. I should really learn to un bolt everything, last time I took the engine out I broke my throttle cable :-/ I keep making the same mistakes, over and over again. But a new one also sounds like a good idea
Tcat55371
LOL, the XT was doing the samething to me. I used Liquid Wrench and pulled the rubber boot back and soaked it. Works fine now
monstaru
if after replacing it you run into problems......it could be the throwout bearing binding on the output shaft....and that sucks.i had that happen to me.it is not fun.............just something to think about
jacobs
WD-40 is a good short term lube but not good for long term. If you need a spray to get into tight places that is good long term, look for Lubriplate Chain & Cable lube.
Numbchux
WD-40 is a good short term lube but not good for long term This is what I was thinking.... I don't think it's the throwout bearing, since the cables (HH too...) are probably origional, and the throwout bearing is less than 1k miles old....but it's been in there long enough to make me suspect that it wasn't an installation problem alot of great ideas here, thanks! and yes, I've ordered a new clutch cable from the dealership near my parents house (MNSubaru club discount!), and will just replace it when I have access to a garage....but it's too dang cold/snowy to be doing repairs outside if it can be avoided.... monstaru
the output shaft on the tranny was more the culprit on mine......it was mud............and then it got into my t-out bearing.don't ask me how...
