vanick
Hi Everyone, We are buying a 2002 Subaru Outback WRX Turbo (what the heck are they called anyway?) after debating which Subaru to buy. I am an Alfa Romeo fanatic and wouldn't drive anything else except those little cute Subaru with that flat four I am so familiar with. My wife needs an every day driver and Subaru just seemed like the only modern car I would ever want to drive as far as esthetics and performance. I was wondering if anyone had any words of advice for newbies like us. We are buying a 2002 WRX Imprezza (Outback) with 44500 miles on it. The car is in a great condition all around and carfax didn't see anything wrong. I drove the car and loved the all wheel drive stability. Like the turbo but a second stage turbo makes you want to feel the oompf sooner than at 3500 rpm. So I know nothing of Subaru short of their merit in rally racing racing. Anything we need to look out for? Thank you, Nick
idosubaru
that's a good, solid motor. i'd replace the transmission fluid if it's an automatic and add an aftermarket transmission cooler if it only has cooling lines running through the radiator. cheap insurance. otherwise not much to look out for until timing belt maintenance around 100,000. outback_97
Welcome to the USMB, you'll find a lot of good information here. I have no idea which car you're about to buy, but it sounds like it's a Subaru, so you'll enjoy it. Steve

swc7916
Hi Everyone, We are buying a 2002 Subaru Outback WRX Turbo (what the heck are they called anyway?) after debating which Subaru to buy. I drove the car and loved the all wheel drive stability. Like the turbo but a second stage turbo makes you want to feel the oompf sooner than at 3500 rpm. I have no idea what car you're considering either. The Impreza Outback (called "Outback Sport") is not turbo-charged. The WRX is; so it's redundant to say "WRX Turbo". What do mean "Like the turbo but a second stage turbo..."? I have had both. Unfortunately (or fortunately for my son, who drives the car) our 2005 Outback Sport was totalled with only 7000 miles on it. I replaced it with a 2005 WRX wagon. In my opinion, the WRX is a better car; it rides and handles better, I like the seats better, it has a far better clutch, and of course it accelerates better. The downsides are the lower ground clearance, the higher initial cost, and the fact that it requires premium fuel.
