MoscowSubaruDude Posted December 22, 2005 Share Posted December 22, 2005 Okies... first post in a quite a while, been on the move for a few. I've been having a problem with my fuel delivery. Massive fuel starvation after about 30 seconds of idling, or about 10 seconds of 2k+ rpm running. Makes a 90-mile drive quite interesting, lemme tell ya. Anyway, I need to know where the fuel filters are, besides the one under the hood, and where the fuel pump is. I'm planning on bypassing the filters, and tweaking on the pump until it runs, as I'm a bit chapped for cash at the moment. Any ideas? I just need locations, and maybe procedure for removing the pump, along with any other ideas regarding fixing this issue. I'm in Spokane at the moment. Thanks! MSSLGECKO Posted December 22, 2005 Share Posted December 22, 2005 Have you considered changing the primary (rear) fuel filter? It's a $5 part and pretty darn easy to change w/ limited resources. I would say by-passing the filters ain't such a good idea. Asuming this is your EA81, it's probably pretty similar to my Brat. Indrid cold Posted December 23, 2005 Share Posted December 23, 2005 If you take your fuel pump out/remove filter have a golf tee ready to slide inside fuel line and clamp as you will drain the tank if your remove the fuel line. Yea, start with simple thing first, main filter...probably back by pump. Also, no duh but... NOT having glass bulb drop lights which can easily break and be an ignition source and or confined space, tight garage and electric heater on floor.... I am kind of a nervous nelly when it comes to flammable stuff.... not scared...just respect it. There were some earlier posts regarding sedament in the fuel lines, never heard of such a thing but I guess it does happen. They blew out with air... argggg.... blow tourch just short of an ignition source... also read where someone had to run new lines. Age of pump may be a factor.... pressure test, pressure side of pumps is listed in Chiltons for Carb. or Fuel Injected. Try doing a search on topic. my .o2 cents. NVBigBlue Posted December 23, 2005 Share Posted December 23, 2005 MSD, I was having a ton of fuel related problems a while back. I'm using Fram G-2 filters ($3 @ wally world). They're not exact replacements, but I'm happy with them. I ended up removing the vapour seperator/filter under the hood. So now I have a filter before the pump, and one right before the carb. (this made the best improvement in running I could have done) I did replace the pump with an after market unit, but that's another story. My hatch was acting like it was starving for fuel, but it ended up being a plugged return line at the tank. Good luck! NV Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
