hohieu
Wow old thread. Man, when I originally posted, I saw that the original post was 12-22-...but not the 2005 -- 3 years to the day.
chadwick35/04
Nope, I wouldn't really yes wheel bearings were crappy in them, headgaskets to went in them also, worked at a subaru dealer for years and wouldn't buy a forester from 1998 to 2002, to me, issues also were oil leaks as usual though. PeterD
to be totally honest with you guys, i really don't care for the build quality of any Subaru after lets say 1995. my parents outback rides like a truck, the road noise is unbelievable, the factory stereo is terrable, the switches are in the wrong places( window and door lock switches ), the trasmission cant find the right gear. The interior plastics are cheap, when you shut the door it sounds cheap. Don't even get me started on the twin cam ej25.... My 90 legacy on the other hand feels like its put together better, the switches are in the right places, the facory stereo with its aux imput is suprisingly good for a 18year old car. the ej22 engine is a tank. I know i can get in my car and not worry about what tools i need to bring, and i know it will return better fuel economy than most "sport utilites" and it has a hard time getting stuck in the snow. I wish Subaru would build cars like they used to. I drove a 98 forester we got in on trade yesturday. its not nearly the car my old legacy is. So if you want my answer, I don't like the Forester at all. Edited December 31, 2008 by PeterD
Pontiac6KSTEAWD
Old post for sure... I wouldnt buy anything subaru from 1998-2003. And my local Subaru dealers agree with me. Its what they call the GM years. Where GM kinda told them to skimp out on certain things to save money. I am so glad that GM no longer has anything to do with Subaru. But the problem is, Toyota scares me even more... I love the body styles of the Legacy from 2000-2004.5. The 2005+, I am not sure of yet. I like the newer foresters, from about 2004 up, but this new 2009 forester, I hate with a passion. I got one as a loaner car while my tribeca was in. It did not like the high speed interstate driving. If you had to make a sudden move on the interstate to avoid something, you would probly wreck anyways. The rear end just dove right out on me. I barely missed that semi truck. What surprises me about it is the new forester is built on the 00-04.5 Legacy frame. It should do much better than that. Gloyale
It would be interesting to see how well a Brighton or D/R version of a Forester would do in the market these days. Especially a D/R... mmm... FWD/4WDLo/4WDHi...... two stick shifts... as long as it wasn't baby-poo brown like my '86 D/R... aw, heck, even if it WAS baby-poo brown! That was the best color ever! at least if it was still shiny.
Suberstar88
I guess it must be where you live, any new(1999+) subaru owner ever talk to cant be happier about there cars, northwest is a subaru zone though lol. I cant imagine myself driving anything other then a outback or forester for along time.
