Frank B
In my ongoing quest to cure the stumble in my 89 GL-10, I checkes the fault codes. 13, 32, and 44. Oxygen sensor, cam position sensor, and waste gate duty solenoid. I have a spare disty, and I just changed the O2 so I'll check the connection and for exhaust leaks. But could I bypass the WGDS? How is this tested?
calebz
My WGDS isn't even hooked up to get boost or vacuum. I have a vacuum line that runs from my turbo housing to the wastegate. There is a boost controller between them so I can run happily and quickly at 9 or so psi (damned fuel cut). None of the WGDS lines are hooked up, though it is plugged in to the wiring harness still.. No codes in the past year or so.
Frank B
Cool, I will bypass it and see if that helps. What exactly is it's purpose?
torxxx
it runs the wastegate. tells it when to open/close from vacumn lines running to the selinoid and to the wastegate..
Frank B
That's what confuses me. Doesn't the waste gat open at a pre-set pressure anyway???? It seems like the WGDS is a waste.
torxxx
Not sure. The turbo I built at my shop, someone unhooked the vacumn lines and I didnt know it. I started it up and drove it around the shop two or three times.... IT overheated the turbo and blew out the coolant and oil seals..
calebz
The wastegate does require some sort of reference vacuum signal. All the duty solenoid does is makes minute boost adjustments for atmosphere/altitude

subiemech85
FWIW: '85 EA82T did NOT have a WGDS
4WDFrenzy
Yeah, but he's working on an '89. Patrick
Frank B
That wasn't it. I disconnected it and re-routed the hoses accordingly, tearing the air intake hose, and braeking the hard PVC pipe behind the TB. Good thing I had spares!!! But it didn't make a bit of difference. Oh well, on to plan F.
