1400 swap

Recommended Posts

the 83 has a knocking rod and CCR wants $900 for a rebuilt 1800 and i have a 1400 sitting in the garage that ran when it was removed, and id like to get the car running for as cheaply and reliably as i can. so why not, as long as i tell the buyer that it only has 58hp and not 78hp.

You might have to do some fiddling with the motor mounts, but assuming you could find a bell housing, and it worked, there's no reason it wouldn't drive. The carter / weber single bbl will not fit the EA63 intake, and even if it did, it's not jetted correctly for a 1.4L engine, so would run way rich, and really crappy. You'll have to find or rebuild the EA63's carb I'm afraid, as nothing newer will do the job. There's not even an adapter plate to fit the weber 32/36 on your engine, so unless you make one.....

I say find a used EA81 and drop it in. Or fix the rod bearings on the one you have. Shouldn't be too hard. If it tests alright for compression, pull it out, and put some new bearings in.

the ea71 and ea81 bvellhousings interchange the same, so if a ea81 wont work, neither will ea71

i got a good ea81 there this summer 150 bucks. w/dist, carb ,alt and starter, the hole ball of wax!! i took in a battery and did a compresion check. seems good. i was leery too, thew were side stepping any testing questing.so i did it myself. you can't beat the price w/a 30 day swap. i know of a 74 wagon, for parts if you go w/a1400[as foolish as it seems] just kidding man!! todd 360 424 4340
