Just wanted to thank the folks that post often here. My head gaskets and clutch went bad at the same time, so I decided to go ahead and take out the engine and fix it all. I had never done anything like this before and the shop wanted 1800 in labor to fix the clutch and the head gaskets. But she is worth it (1990 Loyale in nice shape).

I got the whole thing back together and put it back in. Turned her over and nothing. I was pissed. Well I came in and decided to look on line. I could not find the answer anywhere. Then I came across USMB. You guys rock!! It turns out that the manual was a little misleading on the timing for the crankshafts. I didn't have them out of phase 180 like they need to be.

A long story short, I took her apart yesterday, redid the timing and presto... She started right up!!!

So thanks again!

My buddy (who actually helped me the whole time and had never picked up a wrench before) was nice enough to put some pictures online. This is his site if you are interested.

Great pics.

I have never seen an engine done out on the street.

The closest I've come to that is at a condo carport, where I did a quick swap

before anyone had time to complain.

I think you'll continue to find this board Rocks!

Welcome to it.

Welcome to the board Macm. You guys did an incredible job working like that. Outside, and on a hill no less. I'm sure there was ordinance against what you did but no harm done. Thanks for the link to the excellent photos, they were a joy to see. Hopefully you will now have a lot of trouble free miles driving that nice car. Drive on.

I have to give you guys some props. You didn't have an engine stand..that must have been annoying working on the engine while it dangled from a chain. And those manuals...makes me wonder how many people just threw in the towel when they did the timing to the book...and it didn't start.

Good Job and welcome to the board!!:headbang:

I like the comment about the "G thang"

Congrats and welcome to the board. Nice write up and glad to see you tackle something like this....on the street. Make me look bad. I think I am going to work on 'something' today since 'Scrappy' is in the garage. There is a thing or two I can install on it.

People like you inspire me to get my arse back in the garage and type less. ;)
