zzzasy
Well, I got the old Knock Sensor off the engine on '98 OBW. How the h*ll do you get the bolt lined up to get the new one on. I tried for about forty minutes yesterday to get the new one on until darkness came. How did you guys do it? The next chance I will get will be Saturday morning if its not raining. Working outside in the parking lot in front of my townhouse. I will eventually get it with perseverance, but any hints would be appreciated. zzzasy
blitz
Did the threads get messed up or something? That could complicate things but what lining up? Just insert the bolt throught the sensor (like it's a thick washer), then thread the bolt back into the block. Make sure it's clean and tight, because the ground connection is via the bolt. zzzasy
Maybe I just can't see that well, but if I put the bolt in the sensor and try to find the hole, I can't. So, I tried to line the sensor up with hole and then put the bolt thru it, but my hand blocks my sight so I can't line it up that way either. People was saying that it was a 30 minute job; so I was just wonder what method they used. My 40 minutes of perservance yesterday got me nothing. But, the sensor is off and I know where it goes so evenually it will happen.
cookie
and so is frustration. Go relax for a while and it may go right on. I don't know how many time this has worked for me (the worst has to be under the car installing an engine or tranny that just won't drop in). Next day it is easy with a new attitude. blitz
Something's blocking your access (airbox)? Remove it. You're having a difficult time seeing? Get some really bright work-lights on it. Do whatcha gotta do ...quit yer biatchen'. Geez Louise!
Cougar
One trick you may be able to use is to get a piece of rubber or flexible tubing with the inside diameter slightly less than the bolt head. Insert the head into the tubing and then start the threads by turning the tubing.
Log1call
try getting the bolt in without the sensor on it, that will confirm that the threads aren't damaged. Then put it in and out a couple of times to get the feel of it before refitting the sensor on the bolt and trying again?

JohnVT
Good suggestions. Victory will be mine tommorrow. thanks forum zzzasy I also unbolted the clutch hydraulic cylinder to get a better access to the knock sensor bolt, if you have a clutch... good luck! zzzasy
Yea, I already removed the airbox and the clutch slave cylinder. With the slave cylinder removed I can maneuver it better. I had considered removing the throttle cable, but that will be a last resort. zzzasy
