sid_vicious
Hi, I'm getting ready to do a water pump along with a number of other things on my friend's 1999 Outback Limited wagon. I replaced the water pump on my 1997 Outback not too long ago, and I remember the original water pump having an L-shaped rubber seal on the side. The problem is that I cannot seem to recall if the new pump came with one, or if I ordered it separately. It doesn't seem to be a seal responsible for anything too serious like keeping coolant in, but I would like to have a fresh one on hand because I do remember that the one on my pump had developed a tear in it. Anyone familiar with this seal? Thanks, Andrew
ferret
That L shaped rubber is to provide a dust seal between the left side of the water pump and the oil pump housing. Just to keep dust from entering the timing belt area from below. Similiar to the seals on the back of the timing belt covers.
