bdecriscio
I've searched and searched and can't find out for sure wheather my 1999 legacy outback wagon is sohc or dohc. apparently mid year of 1999 is the changeover date for that model. I can't find a manufacture date on my car. Can one tell by the vin # or another way? Also, engine type says 2.5dcd 0n emissioms sticker on hood. Thanks, Bob
Dickensheets
Examine the timing belt dust cover. You should be able to see a circular impression for each cam. At least on my 97 I can. If that doesn't work, pop the corner of the dust cover and have a looksee with a small flashlight. Then try giving your VIN # to a dealer and pretend you are ordering a T-belt - they'll tell you. rd
e4620
Well, if it helps I've got a 99 OBW and its DOHC, the circular impressions on the over are clearly visible, so you shouldent have to pull the cover off.
