Caboobaroo
sweet man! Lookin good. Glad another person has come to the 5-lug side instead of trying to deal this this stupid 4-lug crap;) Did you use all XT6 stuff or did you go with Impreza stuff as well? If you did use Impreza stuff, welcome to the wonderful world of brake upgrades!
ballitch
i wanted to use the stock e-brake setup so i went XT6 stuff, however im still having a difficul time locating new wheel bearings for the darn knuckles. every parts store i go to shows me some kind of bearing that i didnt pull out of the knuckle......was there a bearing revision or something? i tried searching here and nabisco and xt6.net and nothing really came up. all those pics were the rear, that was relatively easy and straight forward once i got the rear discs turned and threw some new brake pads on them. if you know of anyone that knows anyting about the wheel bearing situation im having please tell me. ~Josh~

rallyruss
every parts store i go to shows me some kind of bearing that i didnt pull out of the knuckle......was there a bearing revision or something? i tried searching here and nabisco and xt6.net and nothing really came up. ~Josh~ many of the wheel bearings I have replaced have been different than stock. I dont know what bearing you need but the newer aftermarket EA82 bearings usually eliminate the stupid spacer in the middle for the front and the rears are different too. similar change if I rember correct. the pics show up tiny for me. idosubaru
if you know of anyone that knows anyting about the wheel bearing situation im having please tell me. i saw you sign up at xt6.net. why didn't you post? we don't have www.xt6.net for nuthing? www.thepartsbin.com is where i get alot of XT6 parts from. they have never sent the wrong parts. i did my front bearings awhile ago and i'm almost positive i got them from the parts bin but it's been almost 2 years now so my memory is vague. i know a guy with an extra bearing or two as well. i'll give him your email address if you're looking to buy a set. here's a set i've been eyeing up for quite some time, just to hold onto as extra's. i may pick them up if i don't have another set in the barn and i do the 5 lug swap on my XT Turbo: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissan-Maxima-Stanza-Subaru-XT6-Front-Wheel-Bearings_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33564QQitemZ8026093261QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
ballitch
ya i did sign up, but i usually search for my info, and if i dont find it then i post. as far as the bearings, those are so much cheaper than the ones i can get in town. one question though, do i need 4? they look big in the picture, not sure if it is just a picture they throw up there. the ones i sourced in town were $60 a piece, so $18 sounds like a steal to me, and since i broke both of the races when i took the bearings out, i wont ned to find new races, cause both of them were worn out. and lastly, it says the bearing are the inner ones, i thought that both inner and outer were the same. p.s. the pictures are tiny because i couldnt figure out how to attach them in their normal 2MB form. ~Josh~
idosubaru
i was confused by the "inner" designation as well, i just recall buying one bearing for the front and it came with the right bearings and seals. didn't have to buy "two parts" for one hub. one box did it, had the bearing and seals in it. there's an inner and outer seal but only one bearing as far as i know. again 2 years ago so my memory is vague. i know someone who did this more recently, maybe i can get info from him. idosubaru
im still not positive on this but i think the bearings are really two bearings held together by a sleeve (second hand information). so it's kind of like a set, which may have look like one in my faded memory. i'm emailed someone about this. if they relpy i'll post. suberdave
front barring is a set, seal barring spacer barring seal }||=||{ maybe my drawing will help, they say a picture is worth a thousand words. but i dont have time to write a thousand words
idosubaru
do the bearing and spacers come "attached" or completely seperate? i only recall one "piece" but memory is probably to blame.
FlyB0y
I'm curious to learn more about this 5-lug conversion ... is it a retrofit from a newer , say legacy, or? And can this same 5-lug conversion work for a EA-81? Specificly a '85 brat or Hatch of the same vintage?
ballitch
i dont know what the differences between the EA-81 cars and the EA82 cars are, but i imagine there really close. you can use the legacy and impreza stuff for the fornt, but you HAVE to use 4WD XT6 rear stuff :calipers, rotors, backing plate, hub, etc,... all EA rear axles are the same diameter and spline count, so you dont need custom axles for the rear. but you do need custom axles for the front ONLY IF you have a non-turbo tranny( like a dual range). for that you take the XT6 or impreza axle, and swap the tranny-side of the axle onto the XT6 or impreza axle. there is tons of info out there, search and ye shall find. if i remember correctly, someone has a EA-81 5-lug swap on there car, cant remember the name though. i need those bearings really fast, i wonder if they need to be pressed in, or if i can use the axle to press them in........ either way, my cutoff point is in a couple days, i either buy new bearings, or i go to the JY and hope the XT6 has good bearings in it already. oh well, they arent too expensive, maybe ill just buy em. ~Josh~
