milkman111083
From what ive read it seems that gen 1 brats have about 70 hp and gen 2s have about 80. Are those #s accurate, they seem really low. how does that translate into to top speed and acceleration, could i cruise at 70? Also, is there any possibility that i could tow a small boat with one? waimaks
Engine specs This might shed some light on the HP figures As for 70miles, I think thats about 110k's. My Brat cruises ok round there. I can't say about towing though. Hope it helps
tailgatewagon
if you notice most subarus have more torque then hp. which meens they seam to run out of steam before your up to 100mph(ea82 and older) but will burn the tires forever in 1st and most will keep them spinning in 2nd for a bit.. my old ea81 79 wagon would spin the tires in 1st 2nd and curp in 3rd in fwd in rwd mode it would burn both rears in 1st all as long as you wanted.. which means if you slip the clutch you can get them to move awsome loads and tow alot of weight, i have not doubt i could pull a bobcat on a 2 axle trailer with a dual range suby but i probably coulnt go past 2nd gear
Zefy
gen 1 brats have 65hp and 81ft/lbs...(depending on the year) so ya... i can spin the front tires in first and shifting into second with ease aswell... as for tow ratings... the gen 1 has an 800lbs limit... thats total storage weight including people... this limit is apparently for in car and towing... although! i've seen many people tow much heavier things... i've seen one guy on here with a nice blue gen 1 hauling around his camper thing... its gotta weigh 1200lbs i'd say... actually... here is a sheet telling all the basic engine specs... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/specs/mechanical/engine-specs.html enjoy...
