T-Belt replacement..What other parts do I need?

Two reasons i'm putting a new timing belt in my 92' Loyale..One is that I need to pull the oil pump & either repair or replace it to get rid of that damn clicking from the valves :banghead: ..I already tried the 50W oil & MMO trick (didn't work)..Since I have to pull the covers & belt to get to the pump, I might as well put a new belt on while i'm in there..

Second reason is i'm sure the belt is very worn (103,000 miles) & the engine just seems like it runs different everyday as far as being in time, almost like the belt is missing teeth & the timing is varying a few degrees back & forth..

 

ANYHOO, my question is: obviously I need to get the new oil pump seals & the timing belt..BUT, are there any other parts I should get while i'm out (such as the tensioners maybe??)

 

I'd like this to be as smooth of a project as possible this weekend.. Believe me, I already know how those "easy" projects end up being nightmares sometimes..I'm already having visions of myself this weekend throwing tools across the yard:madder: , punching stationary objects:banghead: , & scaring the neighbors:moon: ..Hopefully it won't be that bad though:D ...

I suggest doing both belts, the cam seals, the front main seal, the oil pump seals (specifically the mickey mouse gasket), and the water pump (or just replace its gaskets.... it depends on how bad it looks) Also while you are there it would be nice to replace that little elbow hose that exits the top of the water pump and connects to a hard line which leads to a heater hose in the firewall. While stuff is off it wouldnt hurt to replace the V belts too and flush the coolant.

So there's 2 timing belts to replace under the covers??..I thought there was just one long one by the looks of the photos in my Haynes manual..Maybe I need to pour over their instructions again..

Do you usually need to replace the tensioners??

Can't answer the 1 or 2 belt question, don't know what engine you have. But on the tensioners... They should be free spinning, no odd noises. and no wobble side to side. Also check the idler pulley, (it has cogs on it to match the crank and cam pulleys), same check as the idlers.....
