Mark Soutter
Does any one know of a repair manual (Haynes, Chilton, Etc...) for the Forester? I've got a '98 L and I would like to have some authoritative info on repair and maintanance. Thanks in advance, Mark
cookie
I have a Chilton's and it is very good for holding down paper in the garage when the wind blows. It seems to be packed with wrong information. For example it says all late Subarus engines all have hydraulic lifters. Wrong. There is a downloadable manual that I am sure one of the folks here can tell you how to get.

Seahag1978
Another good source is to look on the web for used books. They go really cheap... even for the GOOD manuals. Find the actual title and author... the IBSN really narrows the search... you can find them for cents on the dollar.
seanliu
I have a 1998 Forester too. I use the repair manual from Subaru website (pdf files) and Hayes' 1998 Legacy repair manual as a substitute - they are very similar in many ways (brakes, engine, transmission, suspension, etc.). You can also find CDROMs with Mitchell Repair manual for $35 or less (search Ebay). Good luck!
