Sconnyite
I've got an 04 OBW(With LATCH), and have owned 97 OBW(No LATCH). I'm considering trading in the 04 OBW in a year and replacing it with an older 2.2 OB sport to save on fuel economy. I'd also buy a used Minivan for longer trips. However, I've got one kid, and another on the way, and I need to know what the first model year Subaru started offering the LATCH system anchor points in the Impreza models. It's one of those things that once you've had latch, you'll never go back. I've searched the forum for the answers in prior posts and got nowhere. Thanks in advance to those who reply! Legacy777
Just out of curiosity, since I really haven't seen them, what exactly is the LATCH system?

otis
This may not help you, but our 2000 forester doesn't have LATCH (although it does have the upper tether anchor). So if you assume subaru would put (or not put) latch across the board in all models of the impreza line, then the 2000 impreza probably doesn't have latch. I think starting in 2001, just about every car had to have LATCH. we rented a minivan for a recent trip and it had latch. while it was kinda convenient, I didn't think it was that big a deal (especially since we're not removing/installing the car seat repeatedly) Speaking of saving gas... the nissan quest we rented had a gas mileage penalty of ONE WHOLE MPG on the highway (24 vs 25 for the quest vs forester). You don't know how glad we are that we got a small cramped wagon over the large spacious minivan to save ONE WHOLE MPG. (sorry, just venting a little)
Sconnyite
Okay, so the idea is that I'd like to buy an Outback Sport with a 2.2L engine because I don't want to get nailed with the Head Gasket issue I hit with my 97 OBW again. By basically all accounts on this forum, the 2.2L is bomb proof, and plenty of power for the smaller wagon. Problem is it seems 2001 was that last model year you could get a 2.2 in a Subaru in America. I know latch wasn't mandatory until Sept. 2002, but some manufacturers installed it in their cars well ahead of the mandate. I'm just wondering if Subaru was one of them. I'd love to hear from any 2001 impreza owners..... Thanks, Joel
Strakes
I was in the market back in 2002 and learned (IIRC): 2001 and after Legacys and 2002 and after Imprezas have LATCH. And I really like having LATCH because there is no guessing if that car seat is in securely. It is a pain otherwise...especially in the older GM vehicles that you had to put the seatbelt lock thingy in as well. ARGH! Anyway, latch is great for us parents. Good luck on finding your car.
