iluvdasubarus
Lovely to meet you all... I am looking to buy a used Subaru sport wagon of some sort, wrx if I can afford it, maybe plain old impreza wagon or outback. I am new to the Subarus, but I've admired the Impreza wagons for a long time, ever since the wrx came out. Here in Ohio I see that outbacks are much more common and a good deal cheaper, though. Some of the ones with more mileage, like 120-150k are super cheap. But I don't know if it's wise to buy one with that many miles. What's a good range of mileage to look for in a used Subaru if I want a good reliable but reasonably priced sport wagon? I'm trying to spend less than 8 grand or so, unless it's a wrx. I could go a good bit higher for that. Any help y'all could muster would be very useful and appreciated. Also, any heads up on what year(s) not to buy for whatever reason would be good to know as well. Thanks, Jess
northguy
It kind of depends on what you want to spend and what you want it for. Basically, you'd probably want to look for a mid-90's Legacy with a 2.2 engine. Those are about the most bulletproof in recent years. They'll run well into the mid to upper 200k if prpoerly maintained. In the rustbelt, you should be able to snag one of those for a song, and learn the ways of the Subaru through it until you're comfortable to tackle something else. Good luck and welcome to the board. Sweet82
If it were me, I'd look at NADA.COM and put in some figures and see what current wholesale (Low Book)prices are. I'd look for a vehicle in your price range with the proper amount of miles or less. If you can find a non-wrecked, non-painted Subaru without high miles, I'd consider buying it. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester--purchased $1,000 below low book with average miles. No paint no collision.
