TuckerCJ
This car never made a peep of valve noise. Now all of a sudden there like little munchkins with hammers on the side of engine. i know there hydraulic valves and all but cmon. its a 92 loyale. Does anybody have any suggestions for shutting them up and why there so loud now.
Caboobaroo
they probably got drained of oil when you pulled the head apart so they have to pressurize back up inside for the ticking to go away.
TuckerCJ
i figured that but how long should it tAKe? i mean ive put like 30 miles on it up and down a long hill at pretty high RPM. ive got pretty good oil pressure. isnt there a way to prime those suckers before you put the head back on? 85Sub4WD
isnt there a way to prime those suckers before you put the head back on? yes, you are supposed to submerge them in motor oil and pump them in and out until no air bubbles - is also a good way to ensure they are all moving freely
idosubaru
probably just need to pump up. i'd give it a little more time unless you suspect a serious issue that may result in damage. i don't know the car, maintenance, what it sounds like, drives like etc so hard to make an assessment. i know of one person that used permatex grey type gasket sealant on the cam carriers. some got sucked into the oil port and the HLA's were all loud on that side. he posted pictures of the "blob" as he called it. had to disassemble, remove blob from oil port in the cam and all was well. one good reason to use anaerobic sealant on the cam carriers and oil pump instead of anything else. TuckerCJ
well this motor was one of the quitest ea82 around. it never had a peep until this head gasket. how long should it need to take to pump them up? it really makes me feel a little ill when i drive it. the sealant that was used was the stuff that came in the gasket kit. I did the same thing when I did a head gasket job. Sounded like tick of death, but much louder. Had to pull the valve cover, and some other parts, but not the cam case IIRC, and check them all for stuff stuck in the oil passages, and it cleared right up when I reassembled it the second time. TuckerCJ
What parts did you need to take apart? if you only to the valve cover off?

zyewdall
What parts did you need to take apart? if you only to the valve cover off? I think I took the valve cover off, then there is a contraption with little tubes that squirts oil on the various parts of the cam, which I took out and cleaned. I don't remember taking any more off than that. But it was over a year ago, and I can't remember the details any more.
