Havnfun2
I recently bought a new Turbocharger for my 1984 Subaru Turbo ..4 Wheel Drive ..2 door..Automatic.. Engine size 1.8..IHI Turbo. My old one went out and I was lucky enough to find a new one for sale on here and bought it. The problem is..it is exactly the same as my old one.. but it has 2 lines coming off of it that were put on when there was a recall/upgrade. We have the turbo in the car now.. but are unsure where the 2 extra lines need to be hooked up. There are two lines on the side of the turbo.. on top of each other..one pointing up and one pointing down. Any help with which one goes where would be greatly appreciated as my daughters boyfriend isnt sure what to do now and we have found no information on the change over. Thank You... Pumba
Those on the side is for the water The one on top is inlet for the oil The one pointing down is oil outlet from turbo;)
Ross
Yeah, one of the water lines (bottom one i think) goes to a banjo fitting on the 1-3 cylinder head coolant drain hole, the other goes into the thermostat housing, where the dash temp gauge sensor used to go. Ross
Here is a pic of the upper line: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=9799&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 The lower one coming out of the same side of the turbo wiggles around under the turbo to come out the right side, then joins to a metal line, which attaches to a banjo fitting into the 1-3 head drain hole. A pic of it here, can't really see much tho: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=9800&sort=1&cat=500&page=
naru
You can ignore the water lines if you want.Your turbo will be equally durable to the original strictly oil cooled one.My original 1984 oil cooled turbocharger went 140k miles. For added life, hook up the lines. Dylan86GL10
Run heater line through turbo and back to firewall fitting if you don't have the head connections.
