Hey I'm a new user here and I'm having some issues with my keyless entry, basically it works when it feels like it and before I buy a new remote I wanted to make sure the sensor wasn't being blocked by dust or anything - I read somwhere that this could happen - but I can't find the darn thing anyone know where it would be in a 2001 Forester? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

TIA!

Faith

What Sensor? The keyless remote is a small module on the 2001/2002 mounted in dashboard just above the foglight / cruise switches. It has an internal antenna with an average range of about 50 feet.

The remotes have a small flat round battery and not only do the batteries go dead, they become weak or are susceptible to poor connections. I clean the contacts each time I replace a battery.

On a good day my remote will work at 300 ft. and 100 ft. on a bad day.

Cast one more vote for....check your batteries.

Good Luck,

Thanks for your input. Didn't know about the antenna vs. sensor thing and I have changed the batteries and that didn't help anything. On the other hand two days ago it just started working again. Go figure. Any other ideas/suggestions are welcome. It's working now, but who knows when it'll poop out again.

Thanks again!

I'm having the same problem and I also replaced the battery. Didn't solve anything. Wasn't going to ask on the board until I purchased a new remote to see if that fixes it. I may try contact cleaning until I get money together for a new remote though.
