electryc_monk
from the guy's of the BYB forum..... http://www.funonwheels.net/oursoobs/WhtRXTurbo/index.htm just the engine cooling vents on top http://www.funonwheels.net/photos/poweredbywrx.htm cooling the engine bay and the use of an Intercooler as well. I don't mind admitting this but, I would like to have my hood look something similar to tat when finished. and if'n yer want'n the whole story then goto the main site http://www.funonwheels.net/ and then choose the projects and then the L wagon story. trooperjeep
Quote: . . . because it would pull in the hot air from the engine compartment, especially since the air-filter box is above the front cat-converter. Wouldn't this cause the air to overheat? . . . . . . Old (abdiadic) rule of thumb: every 10°F temp rise = 1 HP drop. Keep a cold air feed for best power. Do not use underhood air. . . . --------------------------------------------------------------------------- On that note... I have been trying to figgure out how to create a cold air intake for the air-filter box. I found a few web-sites with some good ideas such as: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/techarticles/coldair.htm Has anyone made a set up like this for a Subaru? Any Pics? T.J. MilesFox
i took bits and pieces of a turbo inlet and spfi fittings to make ductwork so i could mount the MAF above the turbo plenum, mounted to the little 10mm screw. i cut out the MAF mount d=from the airbox and welded it to a bracket, took a piece of exhaust pipe and stretched it out to fit on one of thos cone filters, had to cut a hole in the hood. but now i have a big ol cone filter that sticks out like BLAM! from the hood. i had a piece of metal that just so happens to conveniently bent to be the same circumfrence as the filter, and goes bact and flattens out with the hood. looks like a jet engine. i can make a drain tube on the back side of the filter, because the top half of it is exposed. it rained today, the motor did not choke... the scoop goes back far enought that i could cut out a hole for one of those xt turbo shrouds.......... the car makes lovely turbo sounds between shifts, now only if the car ran right...................... mummer43
After a few days of driving around after doing the airbox mod, I have to say that my Subie is running Strong! It has a lot more pep and I can definately feel a power increase in the higher RPM's. Between the airbox mod, the Magnaflow muffler and the K&N filter, it has to be up over 100 hp!!!!!
