hyteck9
Greetings all, I have had my 06' spec.b for a bit over a month... alittle over 1,000 miles.... and I have a concern. It "feels" like the car is "confused" between 2,500 and 3,100 RPMS. to better explain: light to normal acceleration is not smooth in that rpm range... it is not choppy like a misfire... It just flutters, or pulses.... and its more noticable when the car is cold. At first I thought the clutch was slipping..? But then I thought this feels more like an engine breathing problem.... like a "sticky turbo" that won't spool up smoothly unless you hammer the gas. (perhaps a waste-gate that won't close?) Anyway, I'm new to scoobies so I'm open to comments. Are there other Legacy GT owners who know what I'm talking about or is it just me? thanks, hyteck9
RallyKeith
Your car isn't broken, but there is a fix. This was I thought fixed for the '06 Models. If you look at someplace like http://www.legacygt.com they refer to it as a shuttering issue. It has to do with the computers control of the turbo waste gate. I'm pretty sure there is an ECU flash that fixes it, but look on the LegacyGT site. I just bought a left over '05 LGT and it does not exhibit this problem. Keith Thanks Keith, I'll read up on the GT site. There is a subaru shop near by so I can take it to get reflashed no problem. NOTE: i'm planning on getting a COBB tuner, will that resolve the issue as well? Or do you think I should get the dealer flash first...
Opie
All the '06's already have the most current reflash... You say your Spec-B has just over 1,000 miles? Give it to your first oil chamge (3,000 miles) and see if it has gone away...also make sure you are using at least 91 octane...higher if it's available near you. Suzam
Try different gas at the recommended octane, sounds like it could be the knock sensor adjusting your timing on the fly.
hyteck9
Hi again... FYI... I always use 93 octane.... and the problem only happens when accelerating "lightly" or "moderately". If I gun it.... seems pretty smooth. Wouldn't the knock sensor only trip under WOT?? hmmm.. well.. maybe not I guess. the fuel map for WOT might be the only thing that is correct... hmm... I'll definately go for the oil change and see if that helps. (Does everyone like mobil1 here?) Otherwise I'll just wait for the cobb tuner and street software to investigate further. Van1
Hyteck9, I bought a brand new '05 Legacy GT 5 sp Wagon on New Years Eve that is exhibiting the same exact symptoms that you describe. I just flipped 1000 miles today and use nothing but 92 octane (the highest you can get in NE without going to the race track). Since I now know that it is not just me, I am going to go talk to the dealer and see what they can do. Let me know if you come up with a solution on your end. 1 Lucky Texan
Is it happening also when decelerating through 3K? Some Forester owners are complaining about that. My '06 WRX has been flawless (except for the nut behind the wheel) so far.
