Hood Hindge question

Recommended Posts

Guest subu luvr

take the vent cover off beneath the windshield.

you will see the hood hinges where they attach to the body.

they arent built to be removable, but ive seen em rust loose,

and one had such rusted hinges, forcing the hood open popped

the welds on both sides.

you can probably bend em back while they are still in the car

or remove the pivot pin, or grind out the welds....

ive re-attached the hinges to the body with braze, weld, and

self-tapping screws.

of course the hinges just unbolt from the hood...

;)

wow, sounds like they really made it difficult to repair damaged body on these things, it would work if even the hinges had adjustable slots from the hood, but they don't. So I guess I better figure out how to bend them back forward. It's so far back that after I fixed the plate infront of the windsheild the hood catches it when it closes. Otherwise I'd leave it alone lol:cool:

The hinges are very easy to replace. They consist of two stamped steel arms. One on each side. They are held on with two bolts on the hood and one bolt under the cowling cover. Remove the cover and remove the single bolt from each side and slip them out. Removal of the hood first will make it much easier.

right. I had a similar thing happen when I hit a deer :)

I didn't have any spares, so I removed the hinged, and used a vice and hammer to adjust them back to stock.

much easier to just replace them. no trial and error on the proper bend....
