[HTi]Johnson
So...I have my engine for my RX torn apart and I'm in the cleaning stage now. There was a lot of water in the oil and I was wondering what do I do about it. I have the oil pan off and I'm letting it drip out over night. Somone told me that I might have to get the block dipped in solvent because the water won't truly leave. But then I start thinking of all the Toyotas and other cars that I have done a headgasket job on (that had water in the oil), and I just replaced the oil and called it good. So I'm thinking of not worrying about it too much...what do you guys do? Thanks, Justin.
Caboobaroo
best bet, once you get it back together, drive it for about 100 miles and change the oil. Do it once or twice and you should be fine. I had an '83 hatchback that had blown 2 freezeplugs in the head and water sat in the crankcase for 8 years! Fixed it all up and she ran fine besides the Carter-Weber. GeneralDisorder
Replace with cheap oil and run till it reaches operating temp then drain while still hot. Refill with proper oil, and drive on. Can use some MMO in the first run too as it's a detergent and will clean out any crap and milkshake from the water. GD
idosubaru
some combination of baking it, solvent and washing it out, drying...etc.
stephenw22
If it's just a little water, it will cook out on its own. Your PCV system is made to get rid of vapour (water, oil, fuel) in the crankcase. After a hundred miles or so, check the oil and filler cap. If the oil is milky then change it for fresh stuff. If all you have is a little gunk on the inside of the filler cap, then just clean it off and you're good to go. Keep a close eye on it for the first few weeks of driving.
