GeneralDisorder
No... REALLY! At least the parts department anyway. Man I love those guys. Very helpfull, and always treat us old school types like family. I just had to share: Intake Manifold Gaskets. 1stsubaruparts.com: $2.39 + $7.95 minimum shipping subaruparts.com: $2.53 + $1.99 shipping (and god forbid you need more than 1 - the shipping goes up to $8.95 immediately!!) *Note - these are small enough to send probably 4 or 5 with a standard stamped envelope no problem. Gee - I wonder where they make their money GD

TheSubaruChild
ah, we used to have a dealership like that. Sunset Motors. Good part department and great salespeople, could always talk to them about anyhting to do with the cars, even if it's been years since you bought the car from them. then a couple years back the dealership got bought by a bunch of jerks form upriver that specialize in selling fords, and now are just screwing it up completely... it's Subaru/Volvo so I'm pretty sure they got into it from the Volvo side (Volvo being partially owned by Ford, of course)... now they're trying to market and sell these much more upscale cars, to say the least, like cheap domestics. GRRR... glad to hear there are other good ones out there tho
GeneralDisorder
I do get some strange looks from the salesmen driving by in the Brat. The parts guys (and one girl) enjoy it tho. One of them has an '82 4WD wagon still, and they have been there so long they actually know a lot of the common EA81/EA82 part numbers without looking them up. TheSubaruJunkie
At least your dealership knows what a old subie looks like. I went to our local dealership once in the RX, and the lady at the counter was suprised when she learned my car was a subaru. She probably thought it was some kind of honda. I have a buddy that works the parts dept there tho, so if i need parts usually i ask him. But I find Napa to be alittle easier to deal with, now that i can use them through work -Brian
Seahag1978
Awww... I would love that! When I need OEM parts I have to resort to coming to the left coast where dealerships still support old gens. Subaru of New England no longer supports older Subes so the dealers have absolutely no access to parts... even if they loved the cars... which I have YET to experience... they look at me sideways and are quite frankly rude about it. Sooo... to buy parts from your same dealerships, I have to either pay thru the nose for shipping or pay C.O.D. which is even worse. At any rate, the part is ALWAYS way less than shipping. I do have a parts man who finds me re-man/aftermarket stuff all the time. He won't sell anything he knows is trash... he says, "Too much paperwork on returns." He's awesome! 4x4_Welder
Local dealer is ok, a little optimistic on shipping times, but not bad. I found out today that the clutch cable from them is actually cheaper than the aftermarket assembly, and the GM designed that cable. Whether I buy that or not, I dunno. BTW, intake gaskets at CSK, $3 and change for cheap stamped cardboard. Dealership, $2.50 for better steel core gaskets. Isn't this supposed to be the other way around? GeneralDisorder
Intake mainfold, valve covers, and oil pan gaskets I always get from the dealer. Much better quality than anything you can get from aftermarket. Usually cheaper too. I know it's weird, but that's the way it seems to work out. subiemech85
I have had good luck with aftermarket, as long as the parts have the 3 magic words "MADE IN JAPAN" carquest intake manifold gaskets are the good type with steel core felpro valve cover gaskets complete set with the grommets, look exactly like my NOS set Napa exhaust manifold gaskets with the metal seal ring and core

RONAN
I pulled into the local dealership last week, to talk with one of the mechanics and when I came out, all of the salesman were standing around my 88 4wd Justy. They were really amused by it. They had heard about them, but never saw one in person??? I guess that I have the only one left in Cincinnati???
