f15xxx
99 leg l sedan 25th anniv, 2.2 l 5-sp. bought the front bracket and the funky bolts that hold it on. went to thread in the bolts and found no threaded holes to attach to. the plate would hang in front of the bumper intake. now it is simply attached to the front bumper. dealer said several cars got away from the factory without the license hardware under the bumper. has anyone else had this problem and, if so, do you have part numbers for the under bumper hardware? thanks. Takami826
I'm amazed mine is still attached, I finally just took a hammer and pounded it a few times and it's still hangin on... but only by luck. I don't think the car was made to have a front plate... (97 legacy)
brus brother
My 2000Legacy GT didn't have front license installed initially but Connecticut laws changed and I had to update my older series of plates that I had transferred from an older car (Subaru of course). Anyway, there were small indentations in the bumper, barely noticeable, and I used the self-tapping(?) screws the delaer supplied when I bought the car and installed the plate and there she sits. I must say it looked better without the plate...
f15xxx
has anyone removed the front bumper from this model to see whether there is a mounting bracket in there?
f15xxx
how about a scan of the FSM for the under bumper area. skip, you still here? emily, you got that info? PLEASE HELP A POOR BROKE 928 MECHANIC
mheilmann
My 97 Legacy has a plastic bracket (about 2 in wide by the length of the plate) that attaches to the plastic "bumper" wih two expandable plugs. When I attach my plate (using my own SS screws) through the plugs, it expands and holds it to the "bumper." As far as I can tell, there's nothing behind the bumper. It's held up well for me--even through car wash brushes!
f15xxx
well, i bought a black metal bracket that attaches to somewhere under the bumper and to the tag. i'm going to have to remove the bumper anyway since some doofus prior owner probably hit a dog or a fence or a keg or something and busted some of the plastic push-pins under there. the diagrams that i've seen don't show any part numbers for any items under the bumper to attach this bracket to, but i don't even trust my parts department because they are in dum f__k jackson hole and have no clue that the earth is round. come on guys, someone has to have a FSM for this particular area. cough it up and you will have immense good karma heading your way. Pillowsplat
I was amazed when my dealer cranked a couple of self tapping screws into the front bumper to hold the the plate on. It must be the normal way. It seems to work fine.
