EA82Turbo "flat spot" or what??

Recommended Posts

My '87 wagon runs pretty good except for a couple things. One is the flat spot or miss that occurs when I put my foot into it.Happens around 3200rpm and maybe a little higher sometimes.

Feels like something cutting out.I haven't checked the distributor for any wobble yet.Infact,I haven't had time to even really go over this car.

Other problem is high idle that won't knock down at all unless I drive for a while, shut it off for a little (stop for coffee,etc.).During the first 10 minutes os so if I do get the idle to knock down it only dips for a second and shoots back to 2100 or so.This will happen untill the car is well warmed up,then it acts just fine and runs well.

Flat spot can occur at any time.Even when warmed up.It always seems to happen when I need to punch it a bit for passing, etc.

Thanks for any help.

Mine did this for the a while when I first got it going .. turned out to be a broken wire on the AAV.. its that thing mounted on top of the thermostat housing.

the rx will sometimes act like its misfiring at 1500 or so, then just kick in all of a sudden with the gas pedal in the same spot.

i just got my turbo motor going in the gl-10 wafon, it wont want to rev past 3000-4000 rpm, kicks and bucks like a mule, you open it up more and then it rpm goes down, making cackling sounds at the exhaust. its hard to start, too

it started up better this morning, but whatever it is it seems to be fuel related

My '85 turbo will act just like that if I blow a vacume line. If I blow 2 or more it will drop the idle down to 650-700RPM, but with only one off its up to 1700-2000RPM. I would look @ all of them( and dam are there a lot of 'em!) I have had to look for 10 or 15min. before to find the one that's off. It gives me the flat spot U are talking about too. Once I get the line(s) back on all is well agen.

Hope that helps.
