What the heck is with my 3rd cylinder

Recommended Posts

Hey all. My wagon (1987 Gl-10 Turbo), is being stupid. I pulled each plug wire, one at a time, while it was running...(and this time I didn't get shocked!) The only wire that didn't affect the idle was the thrid cylinder wire. So I let it cool down and checked the plug...it was on the black-ish side, compared to the other 3.

Then I did a compression check on it...there is only 45PSI on the #3 cylinder...and the rest of the cylinders are 110-120...

I am not blowing smoke or steam out the exhaust and there is no oil in the water or vice-versa. But I do lose coolant. What could the problem be?? Is it because of the turbo being sooo close to the 3rd cylinder?

Thanks, Justin.

I have the same thing going on in my cylinder 1. But I have a bout 160psi on that cylinder so I'm leaning towards the injector. With your compession so low in #3, you may have a leaking headgastket, a bad valve, or bad rings.

Do you have much blow by?

Is there bubbles in the coolant?

Is the oil milky?

If you squirt some oil in cyl #3 and retest, does the compression go up?
