Meeky Moose
is there a difference in gear ratios in a 5-speed d/r and a 4-speed d/r?
Qman
There shouldn't be unless it is a FT4WD or from an RX. If it is it will have a 3.70 final ratio. The gear to gear ratio's are different. 1st gear is similar and they basically fill the gaps between the rest of the gears.

calebz
yes there are, but I don't have the doc. on this computer, I will post it later. If you are speaking of gearing for each individual gear then you are correct.. but for final drive ratio and rear diff ratio, Qman is correct. normal 5spd DR(read non RX) is 3.90, as is the 4spd DR
Meeky Moose
yeah i was speaking in terms of individual gears, thinkin maybe a 5-speed has lower gearing in 1,2,3 than the 4-speed does... as the hatch is now ya can't get it into 4th gear until your doin 70+.. and if a 5-speed has lower gearing in the 1,2,3 then that would be better for offroading anywho... StormTrooper
not sure why, but it has been suggested to use the 4sp. D/r for off-roading
