Throwout bearing problem - Help

Recommended Posts

First post here. I am having trouble locating the correct throwout bearing and collar for my 84 Brat. I think there was a change that year from 200mm disc to 225mm. It appears that an 84 may have either. That seems to be why I keep getting the wrong bearing for the collar I have. If I get the collar to fit the bearing, it doesn't fit over the nose of the transmission. I need to replace both collar and bearing. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Will I have to order from the dealer to get the correct one, or does somebody out there know where to locate one?

Where are you getting your parts? I recomend NAPA.

I assume you have the 4spd 4wd Tranny?

All EA81 manual trannies have the same throwout bearings.

That is just plain wrong,my friend.

2 bearings and 2 different carriers 83-84 for FWD and 4WD.

I hope this helps, I spent some time in my local Napa's books. There does appear to be at least two options (on the EA81 style bearing) one being part # N4012 that has a bearing bore diameter of 1.57 inches and # N3005 that has the bore diameter of 1.3755.(I believe that would be where they press onto the collar) They also listed a complete assembly #N4047 that I think would have the N3005 bearing installed on it which appeared to be the later model's. (the last few years of EA81 production) If that don't help I can dig a little deeper. Good Luck!

I have had the same peoblem. I have a 225mm cluch and flywheel and got the wrong clutch, then took it back and got a clutch that fitted but had the wrong bearing. After several tries to get the right one I managed to get a totaly different bearing to go on my EA81 gearbox clutch leaver. It is a bigger bearing so it doesn't have any issues with 225mm clutch center hole in the finguers. I hope I'm making sence.. Its 12 at night and I've had a long day.

Thanks for the tips all. I managed to find the correct bearing at NAPA, and ordered the collar from Subie Dealer. About $40.00, and they have 8 left at the warehouse if anyone else runs into this prob. Thanks Again. Be wheeling again soon.
