GL-10 engine/trans removal

Recommended Posts

Alright. I'm pulling the motor to replace some gaskets and clean her up real good and replace the trans. Now I'm reading over our shop supplied ALLDATA and it says to take the engine out through the top. Now I am not a Subaru guy by any means, but it sure looks as if it'd be WAY WAY easier to remove that sucker as a whole from the bottom. Anyone agree or disagree? Thanks.

disagree, only way to remove through the bottom is to remove the engine crossmember, and that would require removing most of the suspension. and you would need an alignment afterwards. if you are pulling the trans, pull both motor and tranny at same time. unhook and mark all wiring you unhook. take pictures if you need to, no shame in that. grab yourself a haynes/chiltons manual if you already havent, it will help for the most part but those books are missing alot of good/needed material. but they should work for what you want to do.

Thanks for the quick response! I've done a few engine removals/installations. H22A engine/trans into my Accord. Removal of my KA24 in my 240sx and a few other Civic/Accord engine removals. Also a Bronco which sucked. But I digress. So, I feel that I have enough understanding to do it, I just like to have someone that knows anything about these cars for suggestions. I gladly accept your suggestion and will use it. I haven't looked at that car in so long, so I'm gonna give her a gander and start yanking that monkey, haha! Thanks for the help, any other suggestions are gladly welcomed!
