suban00b
Hey guys. I am brand new here. I am here because I would like to start learning what I can about my old Subaru. This past weekend, before that damn snow storm, I replaced my alternator. It was a fairly easy job and I felt better about my car after I did this. I plan on doing a few more things in the future with this concerning overall care. I have a 95 Legacy L with over 150K miles. It is starting to get old and things are needing to be replaced. So a first question I wanna ask is.. Are/Is there a manual(s) (ie Chiltons, Haynes) that you would recomend to use as a referance? Is there anything you guys would suggest that I check out for the easier side of maintenence? I am not really afraid of messign around with too much, I am just not a real car guy so to speak. I fix computers..... Now. There is another problem that I have been having with my ride. There is an abnormal thumping noise, that comes with a bumping feeling inthe back seat, that is coming from the rear of my car. It only happens when I am making a sharper turn. The car is AWD. I am suspecting that this has something to do with this. Any takers?
Setright
Get a general auto maintenance book to back-up a Haynes. The Haynes that covers 1990-1998 is pretty good, I have only found one fault in it so far - the knock sensor doesn't live in a coolant passage! The engine rebuild info has not been tested by me. Chilton gets a lot of bad reviews on this site. So does Haynes, but not as many...
suban00b
Thanks for the info. I will check them out. What about that noise? Any ideas from anyone? Got any ?'s just ask and I will answer how I can.
cookie
Your description sounds to me like the start of a wheel bearing. They change with cornering load, but I have trouble isolating a noise when its right in front of me, much less on the Internet.
suban00b
Yeah, I figured a noise question would be hard. Hoping that maybe someone had the same experiance. You can feel the thumping in the back seats when making a turn. Almost as if something was spinning slower and making a bumping noise? I dunno. Olnick
What kind of transmission? Oh, and please don't refer to your '95 as old. Mine is mature. With a lot of character! Good luck.

suban00b
I looked on the passenger side under the hood. I found a Black connection/connector that was labled FWD. There wasnt a fuse but i was able to disconnect this connector. Is that what I need to do? I wanna find out if this is the problem or not. Thanks.
