hooziewhatsit
I've had good luck with redline 75w90NS (I can actually shift when it's cold now!) and I've heard good stuff about some pennzoil 75w90 synthetic stuff (don't know any more than that)
Bill90Loyale
I use Mobil 1 Synthetic Me too. The synthetic may provide a little better protection at cold temps (though Oregon doesn't really present this issue). In addition, there are those who think that synthetic reduces bearing wear. There are those who are concerned that synthetic "causes" leaks. I haven't experienced that with the synthetic gear oil.
rideordice
i am a ford tech and i have extra 75-140 full synthetic gear oil, this is spendy stuff over 20 bucks a quart, would that be suitable for an 87 d/r 5 speed?
bulwnkl
^^ You're talking about the expensive rear-end fluid, right? That's not the best choice. It's too thick (140) and it's built for high-load rear ends. I've used RedLine and Specialty Formulations. They're both top-notch.
eggroller
I changed my '88 D/R tranny and rear end to Valvoline Full Sythetic Gear Oil 75W-90 It was a marginal increase in price from the non-sythetic stuff at the local GI Joes. Drive the car around a bit to warm it up and it flows out easier.
peskyjiggler
Thanks to all that replied. I did a search and see that this subject is well covered with lots of different opinions but nice to notice that my symptoms are consistent with others. Gonna try to find some Redline this weekend.
