rubyru
Hi all! I have a question , I am replacing the timing belt on my 94 legacy and I am wondering which tensioner/idler pulleys I need to replace? The manual shows 3 idler pulleys and 1 tensioner pulley, Im asuming that I need to replace all of them but I was just hoping that I wouldn't. thanks! lmdew
You need to check them. The bearings should be smooth and seals good. The tensioner should not be leaking fluid. If they are good, no need to replace them.
hohieu
I've read on other threads that mechanics tend to replace the cogged idler. But with a non-inteference engine, checking them as suggested by Imdew is probably all you need to do.

edrach
What's the mileage? If it's the 2nd time the belt is getting replaced, I think the water pump would be a good idea. If you have a really stong vise, you can collapse and re-use the belt tensioner. If you have black seals, replace with the tan ones; if you have tan seals, they should out-live the car from what our resident Subaru guru tells me.
