hydraulic lifters??

Recommended Posts

It would appear that there is no clear cut answer, most auto's had them after 83 and the manuals came later, but i think that dl, and gl made a difference also, if you are unsure there should be a sticker on the side of the valve cover that says do not adjust or somthing to that effect, if you are going for building a custom engine go with the hydro lifter heads the valves are bigger.

As I understand it, all Auto's in 84 had them, and EVERYTHING from 85 on had them. Both my 84 manual's don't have them, and my 85 Brat (manual) does.

Look for the sticker under the hood that tells if you need to adjust valve lash or not - it will say no adjustment needed. Also - there should be a gold sticker on both valve covers that says "Do Not Adjust Valve Lash" or something like that.

White sticker? Mine is gold - weird. Your engine was probably replaced at some point with a newer one. To my knowledge a 4 speed manual from 84 should be solid lifters. But the hydro lifters (on the EA81's anyway) seem to be better (slightly more HP), and I've never heard of one ticking like the EA82's.
