bushbasher
I'm not sure (but nobody else is postin ) But I heard they only came in autos, around 83, maybe in manuals later on.
NoahDL88
It would appear that there is no clear cut answer, most auto's had them after 83 and the manuals came later, but i think that dl, and gl made a difference also, if you are unsure there should be a sticker on the side of the valve cover that says do not adjust or somthing to that effect, if you are going for building a custom engine go with the hydro lifter heads the valves are bigger. GeneralDisorder
As I understand it, all Auto's in 84 had them, and EVERYTHING from 85 on had them. Both my 84 manual's don't have them, and my 85 Brat (manual) does. Look for the sticker under the hood that tells if you need to adjust valve lash or not - it will say no adjustment needed. Also - there should be a gold sticker on both valve covers that says "Do Not Adjust Valve Lash" or something like that. GD
mcbrat
GD, that's about right. all the ea81T's had 'em.....
Meeky Moose
guess i need to look under the hood, mine an 84 and 4-speed.. valve covers have been painted by the previous owner(s) so no tags on'em... thanks for the info.. definitely points me in the right direction.. GeneralDisorder
84 manual (unless engine has been replaced) will not have hydro lifters, so if your hood is original, it will say that you need to adjust the lash. GD
kecksnext
All my sube's had Hyd lifters 81 glf 5spd, 2 85 brat's 4 spd, don't know bout the 82 Brat auto though..I just saved it from being crushed.Never needed to check.
Meeky Moose
well, my hood doesn't have 1 sticker on it.. but i did find a white sticker on my valve cover that says "Do Not Adjust Valve Lash" so guess my 84' 4-speed has hydro lifters
GeneralDisorder
White sticker? Mine is gold - weird. Your engine was probably replaced at some point with a newer one. To my knowledge a 4 speed manual from 84 should be solid lifters. But the hydro lifters (on the EA81's anyway) seem to be better (slightly more HP), and I've never heard of one ticking like the EA82's. GD
