Oil Pressure drop at high RPM's?

 Share

Recommended Posts

I have an unusuall reading on my guage ... in the past it has been pretty steady, and the pressure increased as RPM's increased ... now it seems to fluctuate between the normal 50 PSI and 20-25 PSI under hard acceleration. I have a oil pump that is only about 3 - 4 mons old, and I keep my engine topped up regularly every time I fill-up the gas. Is this anything to worry about?

Mine, since I got it, has dropped on the gauge when I have my foot into it, but shows a higher pressure -at the same rpm- with less throttle. I think it's the way the wire is routed, it might see a little tension when the engine torques over, causing a poor connection. Does your car act like this?

Hmmm .... that makes sense, I never thought of that, and I did just "fix" my rotten tranny mounts ... I'll have to see the next time I drive it thx!

Did it Work?

Maybe you are using a Monograde Oil? 20W50 is the EA82´s Favourite.

Well, I am in a much colder climate, and the Brat has a EA81, so I have been using 10W30 oil since it's still pretty cold this time of year. when it was staying around -20 DEG F for a week + I happened to need to change the oil so I had 5W30 for a bit ... then we got annother week of -10 or more and I'm gonna wait till it gets warmer, maybe I will use 15W30, because here the temp can go extreamly cold with no warning almost any time of year.
