Justy Need Advice

Recommended Posts

I`ve had a suddle noise coming from the middle to passenger side for some time. Sounds like a rub noise or soft knock. This morning while taking off from a start, the transaxle or front differential acted like it was jumping a gear. I have not looked at it yet, but it does`nt act like the halfshaft splines are slipping or stripping, this is more like it`s internal. Anyone else ever experinced this sort of ailment??? I`m figuring the worse and thinking that the transaxle is on its last leg...

Ok, Justy is in the air and I`ve pulled the driver`s side halfshaft. Found the output shaft at the transaxle is tight without any play, spline looks good. Found that my outer-splined hub that attaches to the brake disc is shot! spline is badly worn down. The caliper was frozen, I`m assuming causing the demise. I`m planning on replacing the halfshaft, wheel bearings & seals, caliper, pads, and the splined hub. I plan on tearing into the other side now and replacing the needed parts.

QUESTION TO ALL, WHERE CAN I GET THIS SPLINED HUB FOR A REASONABLE PRICE???

Finished pulling the passenger side this evening and found the splined hub to be Ok. I bought both "remanufactured" shafts, Subaru OEM wheel bearing & seal kits off of EBAY. Rotors look real good with minimal wear. I need to replace the wedge washer on one side, so I plan on buying for both sides & roll pins for shafts. Still have the issue with a frozen caliper> (driver`s side) & splined hub. I`ll see what I can find from usedparts.com

I got lucky and found a u-pull it yard close by that has 4 Justys. I`m telling you, since I`ve put this on the road almost a year ago, I`ve only seen 1 other (89-94), on the road in the Cincy area. My jaw dropped when I saw them. The guy told me to walk back in the import section and take a look. He was`nt sure what he had, but thought there might be 1 or 2 somewhere amongst the stacks. Could have been more, but the weather was bad. 3 of them are the 89-94 style and the other is a 87-88 awd, which I need parts from. The guy told me $20 for the hub. I plan on pulling it this weekend, barring weather conditions. I have everything else for re-assembly.

If I could use the newer ones, I would, but parts on the 89-94 models don`t interchange with my 87-88 model as far as I know??? Or do they??? If this monsoon like weather lets up, I`m going to get the hub I need for my Justy and check out all of the Scoobys on their site. I`m still in search of the "holy grail" 3:90lsd for my Loyale wagon. I already have a spare 3:70lsd that I`m planning on doing the conversion with an open 3:90.

GREAT to see you got it going again,,, at a good price, too. Not too many parts from the old Justy fit the newer ones, especially body parts. An older parts car would be good for you. I have a '94 Justy, now, but drove an '88 for years . I sold it to a neighbor. When I sold it to him, 2 years ago, it had over 240,000 miles on it & he still drives it everyday!
