I'm going to lift my Loyale. Advice? Tips? Hints? Clues? Comments?

Recommended Posts

Ok I guess I'll start from the beginning I have a 1993 Loyale 4WD Manual Single Range tranny. I'm 16 years old(get my license May 2nd), and my grandfather has been a mechanc/body man his whole life, whatever it is he can do it. I'm not sure how much that I want to lift it yet, I'm thinking either 4" from AA or 6" from SJR. Im kindof limited on money(my mom wont let my bank account go below 1000$ I have about 1,600$ in there now) so that leaves me with about 600$. Now, I know that my grandpa will help me out a little bit on price. I'm just not sure how much.

This kit requires some stock parts modified:Rear suspension cross pipe front Mount cut and extended with Tubing included with (TT5),Transaxle rubber/steel donut shortened, steering shaft modified(not offered by SJR)

^^What Is all that about? is that hard to do or what?

I'm also about 90% sure that I have to replace a CV in the process(When I take sharp turns, it makes a loud, popping, ratcheting, click noise. The boots on the front are also torn) I do work and bring in about 180$ every 2 weeks. I will also need to buy a set or tires and rims. (I will be doing the 6-lug swap, does that work with all 6-lug wheels) I believe I can just get some wheels from a junkyard or salvage yard for relatively cheap. Tires Im not to sure.

So basically I'd like to know what lifts and what do you think a total build cost estimate would be? And just basic advice for these projects.

P.S I will keep y'all updated with pics when I do it.

with 600 bucks, i would by a ozified lift(www.ozified.com) then i would use the rest, to buy new tires and some pugs. you might need to get some money from you're grandpa  my super swampers were like 480 bucks mounted. well anyway keep us updated
Well I know that 600$ isn't enough for me to do everything at once, lol, It's gonna take a while.

the cut and weld as seen in the picture is only done for the 6" lift

it keeps the front mount up high , the 4" lift SJR offers is a bolt in ,

to start with your money would best be spent on a Dual Range transmission , good CVs , and the best tires you can get , good Luck

I dont care about a dual range transmission, like I said I'm 16 and just looking to have some fun with my dailydriver/fun car.

yes...you do. If you don't need lo range with big tires, you don't need a lift.

any of the 3 lift suppliers are great. ask around, see which best fits your budget and timeframe.

I've got one BYB lifted wagon, and one AA lifted wagon (with an SJR piece, for more lift). And they're all great stuff. So don't worry about quality between them.

replace CV boots before the whole axle. and if you have to replace the axle. get a junkyard one. DO NOT get a remanufactured one from Napa, Checker, Schucks, etc. etc. They're CRAP!!!

I agree with Numbchux. Unless you're just doing to lift to make your car look cool, you'll want the d/r trans. I'd say it's far more important for offroading than a lift is. I've taken my non-lifted wagon a lot of places off road I couldn't have gotten to without the d/r.

yes, crap dude, i guess i didnt read the hole post, a d/r is far more important than a lift. shouldnt be a hole lot of money either, just pick one up at the j/y. from what i have heard, it should just be a direct fit. shouldnt cost a hole lot either. but with a d/r, u can offroad way better. now if you're just lifting it for fun, which i think is sorta cool, and sorta dumb at the same time, u will be fine with the s/r. if u dont want to offroad it, why not go low? like style's wagon. that is pimp

Here's mine

His is a little lower. I can't adjust my coilovers down anymore until I get my new exhaust made and get the WRX exhaust off of there.

Oh.. and mine would probably look a little lower if I would ever get around to installing the side skirts and rear lip.

Nice, where exactly do you get ground FX/bodykits like that for these cars?

I belive that I'm gonna go with a 4-4 1/2" lift. what is a good size for tires for street user/minimum offroad? Im wanting about 30" maybe a bit more. Im not going to do a tranny swap for a DR so you might as well stop saying to do so.

McBrat got 30s on his old 4" lifted turbo brat, but he had to pound.cut the crap out of the fenders and firewall.

if you're not going to get DR (which, btw, I think is dumb....but it's not my car), I would not get anything larger than 26s or 27s. those big tires will kill your gearing, and with no lo range and an EA82 under the hood, you're not going to be able to crawl over a curb.
