CPAScott
Looking for repair shop suggestions for solid, qualified Subie mechanics in the Metro-West area of Massachusetts. When I owned my BMW, I found a number of independent mechanics that focused on or specialized in BMW repair only; wondering if the same exists for Subaru. As an alternative, does anyone have any comments about Natick Subaru or other local dealers? Worth going to their service dept. or no? Thanks in advance! Scott Hi Scott, I've been going to Speen Street Auto in Natick for about ten years. They're a good bunch of guys and they know their Subarus. I haven't dealt with the dealer in Natick under their new ownership, but my experiences with them have been less than mediocre at best. I've also had some bad experiences with Patrick in Shrewsbury. I've heard good things about Cityside in Arlington.

Well, I presume they exist, but there is no listing for them on Switchboard.com or YellowPages.com. Do you have any contact info.? Thx.
Ranger83
A coworker had Natick do their head gasket job, they did a good job with it, at typical dealer pricing. I've found the best place to look is the MechanX files at CarTalk.com. Don't just search for Subarus: look at all brands as they don't always list them by brand they work on. Most independent foreign repair shops around here are very familiar with Subarus. When I go to a new shop I try and bring it in for a problem andother shop or I've already identified, so I can see what their deal is.
LongHiway
I too have used (Natick & now) Metrowest Subaru for quite a while now. They ain't cheap but seem to be honest and, pragmatic. I (the wife) was a headgasket case a few years ago and they really did help shop around to see if a rebuilt would be cheaper than rebuilding my blown engine. Spend some money there and smile nice (or, have someone smile nice for you) and they seem pretty liberal with loaner cars i.e., free rental. I think the service department stayed intact with the sale to Metrowest and the new management does not seem to have disrupted the way they work nor service. Here's a related question, is Metrowest now under Earnie Boch or still an independent?

kevinsUBARU
Speen Street Auto is one that has been mentioned here before. On NASIOC, I haven't heard anything good about Natick Subarus service dept, so go there with caution. From my travels in the area, there is what looks like to be a really nice shop over by TJX (I think thats where it is at least) that mainly does Saabs/Lotus. The few times I was there, it looked like a really clean place and the attendant was friendly....I also maybe saw them working on a subie:confused:Anyhow, thats all I got I can't remember the name for the life of me unfortunately. Distance Commuter
FWIW, Anchor Subaru is in North Smithfield, RI. (Not really that far from the MetroWest area) On Rte 146/Eddie Dowling Highway, one exit north of where they cross I-295. I haven't had any work done there, but spent some time talking with a sales person who's also a driveway mechanic for his own cars, and he seemed pretty decent. I suspect their prices may be lower than the Boston-influenced prices in the Metro West area.
LongHiway
The mechanics are Speen Street, Framingham? Are they on the corner of Rte 30 & Speen Street? I can't seem to place them anywhere else, further North just seem to be the office parks. What type of work have you had them do? I've had no problems with Natick Subaru service, but competition is good.

I've had no problems with Natick Subaru service, but competition is good. They're kind of nestled behind a few office buildings. If you head North on Speen and go under the overpass for the Pike, it's on your left, after a brownish building. It's hard to remember what they didn't do. There was the timing belt on the Loyale, the heads on my sister's Legacy, all kinds of stuff on our 95 Legacy sedan. They've done the regular maintenance on my WRX. The main reasons I keep going back are they fix what's broken and do it right, they are wonderful to do business with, their attitude toward their customer's is remarkable. They're rates are reasonable, they shop around and charge less. They've also matched prices from subaruparts.com and the like. They have an extensive inventory of OE parts for older subies, which is how I got to know them in the first place.

unibrook
Cityside Subaru has moved from Arlington to Belmont. They are the dealership to use near Boston. They will do it right, but at dealer prices. If you find yourself near Somerville, use County Auto for any jap car repairs....good service and good pricing.
