Gl-boost
hi everyone as im new here. I have an 1987 Gl-10 Turbo that was given to me. I am going to use this car as a run about and have found some things wrong with it. I think its the watse gate to the turbo, it looks like a vacume canister on the back of the turbo. There is a pice of wire to the end that is holding it open I guess for some aperent reson and I want to know why someone would do this. The linkage is there but its not connected unless it broke. Also the tranny slips alittle is this common, i changed the fluid and am going to add some stop slip today and it seems to be better. It will shift manualy fine just not in drive very good. will shift but sorta weird. Is 15 mph then 28 mph good for where it is shifting. Thanks
Subaru Jim Maple Ridge
Best way is to find a used turbo unit. They aren't worth fighting with. Those autos had a prblem with the governors on the input shaft. It is on the passenger side of the tranny above the CV, behind the cup-shaped cover held on by three bolts. When you pull out the governor, you'll likely find the driven gear worn in the middle. Again, just find a used one.
Gl-boost
well if you say so, I am not going to put any money in it really, The frame does't look to god but if the price is right and I find one I will take it. I have to look at it beter. As for the ranny is this part easily accesable and if so will a newer subaru one work, we have an 93 legacy I think with a bad tranny but if its the same looking, if not any three speed right, I have 1,2,D.Thanks
Subarian
The Legacy trans is different from the GL/Loyale trans.

Thanks If the wastegate actuator arm is just disconnected, reconnect it and put a safety pin or c-clip in the notch to hold it on. The only reason I can think that someone would wire it open it that if the center shaft locked up, the turbine would not spin and would cause more backpressure, opening the arm would relieve most of that. Pull the inlet and outlet on the compressor side and see if the compressor spins freely. Also check for excess oil on the outlet side of the compressor, a little is typical and may also be from the pcv.
