Not Turning Over

Recommended Posts

Which engine? Just as a start, squirt a small amount of oil into each cylinder and try to turn the engine over by hand by cranking on the crank pulley. If it turns over then and still doesn't turn over, there might be a problem related to the starter.

ea82t he said he put oil in the cylinders and tried to do it by hand but its hard and don't do anything\

ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS?

he said he took the starter off and noticed that there was a little wire not hooked up. It started right up. The only problem is the clutch wont disengage.

yeah that wire is the ignition wire on our cars. Mine is now hooked up to a pushbutton on my dash but its a little harder to get it started seeing I wired it a special way. Sounds like he needs to adjust the clutch cable a bit.

he thinks he put the pressure plate in wrong which means he has to take the engine back out and re do it .. which will prolly take forever

well putting the pressure plate in backwards is kidna hard. I think you mean the clutch disc which would explain the not disengaging situation.

I didn't put the pressure plate in backwards and the clutch disc is in the right way. I read in the manual about making sure the 0 marks are at least 120 degrees apart. I kinda forgot that part. What is the pourpose of this and could it be the reason for the clutch not disengaging all of the way?

Putting the "o"s 120 degrees apart only have to do with enhancing the balance of the flywheel/clutch; has nothing to do with disengaging all the way. How much play do you have at the clutch fork?

When the pedal isn't being pressed down there is no play at all. I have the cable adjusted the cable back so it is holding the fork back some already.

I took the engine out today and the clutch disc WAS in backwards. If there is no visable damage could i still use it with out any problems ??

Now I feel retarded. It wasn't in backwards, everything was in the right way. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Is there suppose to be a little shaft sticking out of the back of the torque converter the inserts into the crankshaft?

It kinda looks like there should be but got broken off. It looks like the input shaft on the transmission was up agnist it, would that make it seem like the clutch is not disengaging?
