subaruchick06
My boyfriend just swapped in a manual transmisson and put the engine back in. The engine had been sitting about four months and when he put it back in it wouldn't turn over even with the spark plugs out.
edrach
Which engine? Just as a start, squirt a small amount of oil into each cylinder and try to turn the engine over by hand by cranking on the crank pulley. If it turns over then and still doesn't turn over, there might be a problem related to the starter.

It started right up. The only problem is the clutch wont disengage.

Mine is now hooked up to a pushbutton on my dash but its a little harder to get it started seeing I wired it a special way. Sounds like he needs to adjust the clutch cable a bit. Alex GL-10
he thinks he put the pressure plate in wrong which means he has to take the engine back out and re do it .. which will prolly take forever

I think you mean the clutch disc which would explain the not disengaging situation.
subaruchick06
no he knows that he put thr clutch disk in right because it sayd flywheel side on one side and he did that right..
Alex GL-10
well putting the pressure plate in backwards is kidna hard. I think you mean the clutch disc which would explain the not disengaging situation. I didn't put the pressure plate in backwards and the clutch disc is in the right way. I read in the manual about making sure the 0 marks are at least 120 degrees apart. I kinda forgot that part. What is the pourpose of this and could it be the reason for the clutch not disengaging all of the way?

How much play do you have at the clutch fork?

How much play do you have at the clutch fork? When the pedal isn't being pressed down there is no play at all. I have the cable adjusted the cable back so it is holding the fork back some already. Alex GL-10
Can anyone tell me how thick the clutch should be?
Alex GL-10
Is there suppose to be a little shaft sticking out of the back of the torque converter the inserts into the crankshaft? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=10295&cat=500&ppuser=14202 It kinda looks like there should be but got broken off. It looks like the input shaft on the transmission was up agnist it, would that make it seem like the clutch is not disengaging? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=10296&cat=500&ppuser=14202
