Jack in Norfolk
Does anybody have a working Subaru winch? Just curious. I know they made them; I've just never seen one.

subeman90
paul's 78 does have one: I think it could work but I don't think he has it hooked up.
moosens
THe one that came with my car, before I took possession of it,was yellow.I think it's a Warn(?),maybe a Reese...but that one never made it to me.The previous owner traded it just before I got the car. So,EZap sent an orangeish-red one to me.It bolts right up,so maybe it's the same, not sure. Mine is not funtional at this time, but the wiring is still there from the original install. Kids point at it all the time.People like seeing my '78 but then they see the winch it totally tickles them.

redscab
Does anybody have a working Subaru winch? Just curious. I know they made them; I've just never seen one. they came in yellow (most common), and white... here's a brochure page with the yellow one... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/Literature/brochures/1980-acc-a.jpg and here's a white one... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/Literature/brochures/1982-brat-h.jpg they were just a small Superwinch. 1000 pounds... I think I have a working yellow one, and Syrinx has a yellow on, New in The Box!!!!!

eggroller
Is there anything wrong with getting a winch designed for an ATV instead? They are smaller but with big capacity. Like Warn's 4.0i Utility Winch 4000 lbs capacity single line at 12V DC. http://www.warn.com/atv/winches/40ci_winch.shtml The weight of the unit is 21 lbs. Quite light IMHO. It should be able to pull the lightweight Scoobie out of many situations. As always have a good battery to use a winch. It is not OEM but should do quite well, right? subeman90
just remember....if you get a winch I highly recommend getting one of those thingys (can't remember the right name) that has a pulley at the end and you put the lead through it and bring it back to hook onto the car. (is snatch block right????) I believe they double the capicity of the winch when you have one of those. Something like that (don't mind me...was just at the Dr. and can't think right)
eggroller
Correct, the Snatch Block will effectively double the pulling power of the winch. There is a PDF on the URL I cited with Winching Techniques (http://www.warn.com/corporate/images/90/64660-A2_RS.pdf). Very informative! EDIT: Added link to PDF.
